Objective: To a university-wide community that bridges technical data science skills and conversations about tech ethics through peer learning, applied projects, and industry collaboration.
Process:
- Discovery Phase: I spent the August of 2024 discussing with CAIDS staff and faculty what was currently missing in the CAIDS architecture and delivered a comprehensive report of how to organize effectively.
- Design Phase: I led a team of students to establish the groundwork for the data collective, write a constitution, market the organization, and assign roles.
- Development: Built the website using WordPress, allowing for easy content updates by the non-profit team. Integrated features such as a blog, events calendar, donation system, and educational resources.
- Launch(Spring 2025): The student organization launched, I presided over an e-board of five, and a larger general body of a modest 35 students.
Outcome:
- Increased the general body membership by roughly 185% from 35 general body members to about 100 today.
- Established and maintained professional partnerships with Tulane alumni and nurtured those connections that are now available to the general body members, for one-on-one meetings.
- Hosted three events since the founding of the organization.
